Stephen Truax
With over fifteen years’ experience as an art dealer and independent curator, Stephen founded Truax Art Advisory in October 2022 to work directly with artists, private collectors, museums, and not-for-profit organizations. Previously, he served at Cheim & Read in New York, where he rose to the position of director over seven years.
He collaborated with the Frick Collection in New York on Living Histories: Queer Views and Old Masters (2021-2022), and was a contributing editor of the exhibition catalog. He curated two exhibitions of contemporary queer art: Any distance between us (2021-2022), with Dominic Molon, the Richard Brown Baker Curator of Contemporary Art, at the RISD Museum in Providence, and Intimacy (2018), at Yossi Milo Gallery in New York. His essay, “Why Young Queer Artists Are Trading Anguish for Joy,” (2017), was one of the first to discuss recent queer figurative painting.
He earned his BFA at the Rhode Island School of Design, and maintains his artistic practice as a painter. He lives with his partner in Brooklyn.
