In 2022, Stephen Truax created Truax Art Advisory to work directly with artists, private collectors, philanthropic organizations, and museums. Prior to this, Stephen was a director at Cheim & Read from 2015 to 2022, where he specialized in Modern and contemporary art from 1958 to the present.
He has curated exhibitions on queer art for the RISD Museum of Art and Yossi Milo Gallery, and contributed to Living Histories: Queer Views and Old Masters in 2023 at The Frick Collection. His writing has been published in Hyperallergic and The Brooklyn Rail, and his 2017 essay, “Why Young Queer Artists Are Trading Anguish for Joy,” was commissioned by Artsy.
Stephen brings a unique perspective as a working artist to the business of contemporary art. Stephen earned his BFA at RISD, and his work has been exhibited recently at The FLAG Art Foundation and the Tang Teaching Museum, and it has been discussed in The New York Times and ARTFORUM.
